Privacy
This page covers the website focus-mode.co and its emails. The Focus Mode extension has its own policy: extension privacy policy. The extension has no account and no analytics; opening this website from the extension (welcome page, goodbye page) sends only the extension version, the shortcut Chrome assigned and your interface language, in the address of the page.
Who is responsible
The publisher named in the legal notice. Contact: reply to any of our emails.
Visits: counted, not tracked
Each page view, each click on an install button and a few page events (for example “the shortcut worked” on the welcome page) add one anonymous row: the day (not the time), the page (without its query string), the site you came from (its domain only), the type of device (computer, phone, tablet) and, on the pages opened by the extension, its version and interface language. No cookie, no IP address stored, no identifier: we cannot recognise you or follow you from page to page. This counter only measures the audience of this site; rows are deleted after 25 months.
Your visits are counted anonymously.
Campaign tags. Links to this site can carry campaign tags (utm_…). When you click “Add to Chrome”, they are passed on to the Chrome Web Store, which reports them to us as totals. This site itself only records them if you accept “measure campaigns” in the cookie banner (when the banner is shown).
Emails
If you sign up, we keep: your email address; the sentence you agreed to, the form and the date (proof of consent); your language and time zone (to send at a decent hour); the campaign tags of your visit, only if you accepted campaign measurement; and, as the signup sentence says, whether you open our emails (a 1-pixel image) and which links you click, on any device where you read them. What that is used for, and nothing else: the links you click choose what comes next (for example, clicking the YouTube guide can bring up to three emails about Focus Mode Pro); and after 6 emails, 60 days without an open or a click stops the weekly emails. Our sending provider also tells us whether an email was delivered, bounced or marked as spam.
- Double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click the link in the confirmation email. Unconfirmed addresses are deleted after 7 days.
- Unsubscribe in one click from any email. We then delete what you opened and clicked and the emails we sent you, and keep only your address, the proof of the consent you had given and the date you left, so we never email you again by mistake. (If an email bounced or was marked as spam, its sending record is kept 30 days to watch the health of the list, then deleted.)
- Retention: until you unsubscribe, and at most 3 years after your last click.
- Legal basis: your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)).
- Buyers: to stop offering Pro to people who already bought it, and to count the sales our emails helped, we read Pro purchases from Stripe (date and amount) and compare a keyed hash of the email used at checkout with our list. The buyer's address is never copied here; the hash is kept only if the buyer is on our list. Purchase rows are deleted after 25 months.
- Mobile link: if you only ask us to email you the install link, we send that one email and do not keep your address (only a keyed hash of it for 30 days, to limit how many emails one inbox can receive).
- Age: our emails are for people aged 15 and over.
Goodbye survey
The answer you give when you uninstall is stored with the extension version and your interface language only: it is anonymous. If you then ask for the fix by email, your answer is also kept with your address, to send the right fix. Please don't write personal details in the free-text box.
Cookies and advertising tags
By default this site sets no cookie. If we turn on Google, Meta or Reddit tags (to measure our ads and to show Focus Mode again, on a computer, to people who visited from a phone), a banner asks first. Refusing is as easy as accepting, the site works the same, your choice is kept for 6 months in your browser, and you can change it at any time from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of each page.
Who processes the data
- Railway Corporation (hosting and database, United States)
- Resend (sending emails, United States)
- Stripe (payments for Focus Pro, through ExtensionPay; read-only for us)
- Google, Meta, Reddit: only if you accept their tags
Transfers to the United States rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to its use, by writing to the address of the legal notice. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: cnil.fr).
